Although he’s traveled around the world — from Paris to Vancouver to Seattle to Hawaii — there’s no doubt that Clinton Taylor’s favorite vacation spot is Jamaica.
Why? “Because when you are on the island of Jamaica, all your troubles disappear!” he smiles.
There’s another reason Clinton feels so at home in Jamaica - that’s where he was born. He grew up in St. Thomas, where he attended elementary school. He then attended St. Andrew Technical High School in Kingston for four years and Excelsior College for one year studying accounting.
“I also completed external courses and examinations through the University of Cambridge and University of London while living in Jamaica,” Clinton shares.
In 1984, he and his family became Florida residents. He continued his education after immigrating to the U.S., completing his bachelor's degree at The University of Phoenix and his MBA with Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale.
As a teenager, Clinton was “intrigued” by the banking industry and envisioned himself as a future banking professional.
Banking Takes Root After Years of Intrigue
“After high school, I applied to Barclays Bank in Jamaica and started out as a teller and worked my way through various positions including teller, loan processor, assistant manager and credit analyst,” he says. “After joining my wife and son in Hollywood, Florida, in 1984, I joined Barnett Bank (now Bank of America). So I’ve been a banker in Florida since 1985!”
Now Clinton is the newest member of the INB South Florida team, joining our Commercial Lending department in Miami.
“INB had a culture that appealed to me, where I could use my years of experience to assist my customers while adhering to the core values of INB,” he shares.
Clinton quickly committed to INB’s vision of “making banking easy” while helping his business clients reach their goals.
“I enjoy making customers happy by achieving their financial objectives with a collaboration of internal partnerships working together as one team to protect the bank’s interest,” he explains.
Family and Interests Make for a Grounded Life
When not at work, Clinton always looks forward to family time. He’s been married to his wife Avis for 40 years, and the couple has one son and four grandchildren. He also enjoys playing golf with his friends and has established an annual golf tournament in the summer and fall for friendly competition.
Clinton has a lot of personal interests: he loves Western movies with Clint Eastwood and has a collection of vinyl records — both 45’s and LP’s of over 5,000 — along with several hundred CDs, so he is usually the family DJ during get-togethers.
“I also love to cook and have special assignments during Thanksgiving and Christmas for my soups and salmon,” he says.
Clinton is committed to the community he works and lives in as well.
Over the years, he’s served several community-based organizations in various capacities, including Treasurer of the Greater Caribbean-American Chamber of Commerce; Mentor of The Year for Take Stock In Children; Trustee of the Pension Board for the City of Miramar, Florida; and member of the Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes since 2001, in which he’s held several leadership positions such as five-time treasurer and current Scholarship Chair for over 10 years.
“I would say my greatest accomplishment with the Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes was leading the organization to Florida District Club of the Year in 2016-17, selected out of 400 Service Clubs in the State of Florida,” Clinton shares.
We’re pleased to welcome Clinton to INB Florida!
