Shane Yamco has three distinct goals set for himself to complete after graduation: attend a four-year university, travel across Europe, and experiment with acupuncture. He can now add Riverton High School January Student of the Month to his list of accomplishments.
He is a member of cross country, track and field, math team, WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering Program), National Honor Society, student council and Hawk Pride.
During track and field season, he achieved the record for the 800m. Shane has been awarded Eagle Scout rank by the Boy Scouts of America, is a recent Illinois State Scholar and a recipient of the Sons of the American Revolution award.
Shane was chosen for the January honor by faculty and staff based on attendance, academics, effort, conduct, cooperation, dependability, leadership, school involvement, and service to others.
The Student-of-the-Month Program is sponsored by Illinois National Bank. Monthly winners receive a $50 award. They are also in the running for the $500 Student-of-the-Year Award also sponsored by INB.
