She plays high school sports and is active in school activities, yet manages to get great grades. “She” is Riverton High School’s November Student of the Month, Josie Garfat. Josie is the daughter of Joni and Chris Garfat.
Josie plays both volleyball and soccer, takes part in Hawk Pride and serves as student council vice president. She also earned admittance to the National Honor Society. She has earned several awards: The Daughters of the American Revolution Award, Coach’s Award in soccer, as well as the Challenge Award in soccer.
Soccer will continue to be part of Josie’s life in college. She plans to play for Illinois College in Jacksonville while majoring in pre-occupational therapy.
The Riverton High School Student of the Month Award is sponsored by Illinois National Bank (INB). Josie was chosen for the award by the staff and faculty of RHS based on attendance, academics, effort, conduct, cooperation, dependability, leadership, school involvement, and service to others. She will receive $50 from INB and will be eligible for 2015-2016 Student of the Year honors at graduation.
