libraryAlbert Einstein is noted for saying, “The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library.”

Kathy Roegge, the new director of the Pleasant Plains and Ashland libraries, is out to make sure you know exactly where to find these two library jewels.

“During National Library Week, April 10 – 16, we’re holding special events so people in the community can get a full appreciation of the services we offer.” One of her stops is INB’s Pleasant Plains branch.

“We’ll be at INB Monday, April 11, to greet people as they come in, give then one of our bookmarks which list all of our services, and inviting them to the other events we’ll hold during the week.” Roegge will leave behind a display in the branch to remind INB customers about their local libraries and the services they provide.

Roegge explains the libraries are part of the Prairie Skies Library District and serve the Pleasant Plains school district and part of the Ashland school district. Gone are the days when libraries only provided books, publications and reference manuals! Today’s library patron can download e-books for free, and take part in programs teaching how to use computers, social media and apps. Roegge adds, “We also offer a big, big summer reading program for the kids pre-school through junior high. And this summer we’re bringing in an author to speak.”

But what’s happening during National Library Week? Here’s the complete schedule:

Monday, April 11: Promote the Library Day – Library Staff will be in area businesses including INB-Pleasant Plains
Tuesday, April 12: Library Staff and Board Appreciation Day
Wednesday, April 13: Coloring Contest for both children and adults
Thursday, April 14: Popcorn and DVD day; 1-7 p.m., both locations. Enjoy popcorn and a movie for as little or as much time as you have to relax at the library
Friday, April 15: “Science Day” Come investigate.

You’ll find the Pleasant Plains library at 555 Buckeye Road. The Ashland Library is located at 125 W. Editor St.
