With the new school year comes a brand new member of the Senior-of-the-Month club at Mount Pulaski High School. Meet Peyton Taylor, the September winner. He has accomplished so much during his time at MPHS including straight A’s each semester. His long of list of awards start with Spanish Student of the Year his freshmen and junior year, and Anatomy and US History Student of the Year also during his junior year. Peyton is a proud member of the National Honor Society, Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE), Science Olympiad, Spanish Club and his church’s youth group.
Peyton not only does well academically but excels on the field and basketball court. He is a member of the basketball team and participated in track and field. Peyton made it to the state finals in track and field the last three years; he placed 5th overall his sophomore year. His sophomore year he was awarded most rebounds, highest field goal percentage, and most points in basketball. His junior year he was honored with most rebounds, most points, and made the all- conference team for basketball.
Peyton plans to continue throwing in track and field at a Division I or II school. He plans to pursue a degree in Engineering or Kinesiology. He currently is looking at either the United States Naval Academy or SIU in Carbondale for next year, but has not made a definite decision yet.
The September Senior-of-the-Month is the son of Marla and Greg Taylor of Chestnut. Peyton was selected for this honor based on the criteria of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
The Senior-of-the-Month Program is sponsored by Johnson True Value Hardware and Larry Conaway Jr. Monthly winners receive a $100 award paid to the college they plan to attend. They are also in the running for the $500 Senior-of-the-Year Award sponsored by Illinois National Bank.
