Choosing to help people is a life changing decision. Since nurses provide one-on-one care, patients must have complete trust and confidence in that nurse. They need to have faith. So it’s serendipity that Faith Doerr plans to attend Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and major in nursing. Faith was chosen as the January Senior-of-the-Month by faculty and staff based on the criteria of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
During the school year, she stays engaged as a member of the yearbook committee, student council, National Honor Society, Spanish club, Science Olympiad, Drama club, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), and Prom committee. Faith has been a member of the Mt. Pulaski cheerleading squad all four years of high school. She also played softball for two seasons.
Faith has been honored for her many accomplishments with awards. She is winner of the 2017 Memorial Day Essay Contest, 2017 cheerleading spirit award, Spanish I and World Geography Student of the Year, Junior Women’s Club International Study Scholarship and successfully attained honor roll for seven semesters.
The Senior-of-the-Month Program is sponsored by Johnson True Value Hardware and Larry Conaway Jr. Monthly winners receive a $100 award paid to the college the winner plans to attend. Monthly winners are also in the running for the $500 Senior-of-the-Year Award sponsored by Illinois National Bank.
