For Charlie Kerwin, technology is one of the many ways INB fulfills its mission of making banking easier. Whether he’s helping to roll out a new system, improving processes or witnessing an ‘ah-ha’ moment when someone learns how to use a new product, Charlie finds it very rewarding to see the direct impact IT can have on making experiences better for both customers and INB staff.
“From an IT perspective, INB has always provided loads of new challenges and opportunities,” Charlie says. “There is also a great group of people that I get to work with every day, across the organization.”
Today, Charlie serves as SVP, Director of Infrastructure, Compliance and Tech Support at INB, where he focuses on cybersecurity, technology operations, and supporting the systems that the bank relies on every day.
Charlie joined INB when he was recommended by a peer. With a newborn on the way at the time, he discovered that INB was gracious to allow him time off even though he’d just started – and more than two decades later, he finds that same culture of generosity and care has persisted.
Now Charlie and his wife have five children who have kept them busy over the years with many activities, sports, and interests. His commitment to service extends beyond his work at INB through volunteer efforts focused on technology, music, and youth development.
On weekends, Charlie lends his technology and musical skills to his church, playing tenor saxophone in the worship band at Rochester Christian Church and coordinating the tech booth team that runs sounds, lights, and video for weekend services.
He’s been involved with the Rochester Band Boosters since 2022 and serves as treasurer for that group, helping to fundraise for the instrumental music program at Rochester High School and serve as support staff for the Marching Rockets at home football games, parades, and band competitions.
Charlie is also an Eagle Scout and was a longtime volunteer with Scouts, including serving on his local Troop Committee and as the advancement coordinator for the troop, enabling him to pass on the crucial leadership skills and service-based principles he learned.
Charlie values personal and professional growth in all areas of his life, and he appreciates how INB encourages an innovative mindset across its departments.
“This manifests itself not just in our product offerings and how we work with our customers, but also in how the bank handles IT and Information Security. This mindset allows all of us in IT to continue to be challenged to learn new skills,” he says.
