Sarah Phalen serves as president and chief executive officer of INB, N.A., bringing vision, strategy, and deep community commitment to the organization she helped build from the ground up. As a member of the founding team when Illinois National Bank launched in 1999, Sarah played a pivotal role in shaping the bank’s culture and operational foundation. Since stepping into the CEO role in 2011, she has strengthened INB’s focus on community-centered, relationship-driven banking and guided significant strategic growth.

A native of Springfield, Sarah earned a bachelor of arts degree in Economics from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a master of business administration degree from University of Illinois Springfield. Since 2021, she has served on the Board of Trustees for the University of Illinois System. 

With over 30 years of banking experience, Sarah’s expertise spans retail, treasury sales and operations, corporate and brand marketing, and residential mortgage. Prior to joining INB, Sarah held leadership roles at large financial institutions as regional retail manager, treasury sales executive, and commercial lender.

Beyond her executive responsibilities at INB, Sarah is extensively involved in advancing the Springfield and Illinois business and nonprofit communities. She serves on the Board of Directors for Brandt, Inc. and the Illinois Ventures Board of Managers, chairs the Vision for Hope Foundation for Hope School, and is treasurer of both the Springfield Sangamon Economic Development Commission and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation. She also serves on the INB Board of Directors and as Secretary of INB Bancorp.
