After Lucas Brubaker discovered an interest in math while in grade school, he started down a math-focused path, eventually deciding to pursue a degree in accounting. And it was during his early career in auditing that he found a particular affinity for auditing banks.

“Audit has been my primary focus, but I always felt that the finance side of banking was more to my liking,” he says.

Now we’re welcoming Lucas to INB as our new Asset Liability Analyst!

Born in Peoria, Lucas moved to Rochester as a toddler, where he grew up playing baseball, soccer, and other sports. He has one older brother, and his parents’ careers in state administration and lobbying gave him a unique perspective on business and finance from an early age.

Lucas attended Illinois State University from 2011 to 2016, graduating with a double major in Accounting and Finance and a minor in Financial Planning. He sat for and passed the CPA exam in 2018 while working for Kerber, Eck & Braeckel (now KEB). At KEB, Lucas was a member of the audit department, focusing on performing audits and reviews across a range of industries, including nonprofits, privately held businesses, religious organizations, and financial institutions.

In 2021, he joined Williamsville State Bank & Trust as an Internal Auditor, gaining hands-on experience overseeing the internal audit program.

“I audited essentially all areas of the Bank with exception to IT – ranging from Asset Liability Management, Bank Secrecy Act, loan file reviews, and ACH operations to teller and CSR cash counts,” he says. “I found I liked specific aspects of banking, particularly IRR/ALM and liquidity management, which led me to INB.”

Outside of work, Lucas and his wife enjoy traveling, especially to national and state parks, often tent camping but occasionally splurging on a cabin. Some favorites have been Yosemite National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Acadia National Park, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. They were married overlooking the Great Smoky Mountains in the summer of 2021, and they welcomed their first child in April, a daughter named Peyton.

“Outside of the National Parks, we try to get up to South Haven, Michigan, as often as we can. We also visit my family in the Clearwater, Florida area at least once per year,” he shares.

Now Lucas is excited for this next step, bringing his expertise and passion for finance to INB.

“I look forward to utilizing all available tools and data at my discretion to provide meaningful insight to decision-makers at INB and further enhance the current performance and long-term stability of the bank,” he says.

Welcome to INB, Lucas!
