Joe Cecil was intrigued when he received a phone call from his colleague Zach Ponder.

Zach, who serves as VP, Commercial Lending for INB Peoria, shared about INB’s plans to grow in Peoria, including creating a new role in Joe’s areas of professional interest.

“Hearing about plans for my expertise to be utilized was very exciting. Once I was able to meet with the INB leadership team to further discuss that role, it was clear this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” Joe shares.

Now we’re excited to welcome Joe as INB Peoria’s new VP, Private Client and Trust Services!

A Strong Foundation

Joe grew up in Chillicothe with an older sister and younger brother; his father worked at Caterpillar for 40 years before retiring. Joe attended St. Edwards in Chillicothe for grade school, Chillicothe Elementary in junior high, and Illinois Valley Central High School, before earning his bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University.

Right out of college, Joe was recruited by a friend into the banking world. It didn’t take long for him to realize he had a unique gift: making personal finance easy for people to understand and helping them execute opportunities to improve their financial situations.

“That was almost 20 years ago, and I am still inspired by this basic value proposition today,” he shares.

Since then, Joe has honed his skills through leadership roles with respected institutions including JPMorgan Chase, PNC, and most recently, Busey Wealth Management. Along the way, he earned multiple licenses and designations, as well as awards for performance and leadership.

“INB’s culture and growth strategy were the two biggest factors in my decision to join the team. And I know that all of my experiences, accomplishments and designations have perfectly prepared me for my current role here,” Joe says.

In his new role within INB, Joe will provide clients with banking strategies, advice, solutions, and a high-touch experience customized to meet their financial needs.  This new role is designed to give clients a dedicated resource for all their financial decision-making.  Joe will collaborate with branch managers, commercial lenders, treasury, and wealth advisors to provide clients with seamless access to the full range of resources available at INB.

“I’ll work with our most engaged customers, providing all of the resources that INB has to offer and serving as the client’s personal CFO when looking for guidance in making financial decisions and plans for the future,” Joe explains.

Life Outside the Office

Just as Joe is dedicated to his clients, he’s equally committed to his community and family. He currently serves as Vice-Chair for the Better Business Bureau of Central Illinois Board of Directors and is a member of the Bradley Braves Club Board of Directors, supporting Bradley Athletics.

Sports play a major role in Joe’s personal life, which he shares with his family. “I’ve been married to my lovely wife Theresa, for 13 years, and she’s an alumnus of Notre Dame High School, Bradley University for her undergrad, and Illinois State for her master’s,” he says. The couple, who now live in Washington, are raising three sons: Vincent (10), Benjamin (8), and Theodore (5), as well as a 1-year-old goldendoodle named Louie.

The bulk of Joe’s free time is spent coaching and cheering on his kids at youth sport events. He also enjoys golf, collecting sports cards with his sons, and playing poker.

“And I am a big Chicago sports fan, so we are always watching the Bears, Bulls, and Cubs, and our local favorite, Bradley University Athletics,” he says.
