Several years ago, Rachel Selvaggio made a bold move: she left her job without a backup plan.

At the time, a new job opportunity had brought her back to her hometown of Springfield, along with her husband’s role in a local family business.

“However, I soon realized that event planning in that context wasn’t the right fit for me,” she says. “But that led me to an unexpected but rewarding path in banking.”

And we’re glad she found that path – we’re welcoming Rachel to INB as Assistant Vice President and Corporate Trainer!

A graduate of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, Rachel earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Communication Studies with a focus in Public Relations from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). Later, she returned to SIUE to complete her Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Management.

Stepping into Banking

After stepping away from event planning, Rachel launched her banking career in the call center at Town and Country Bank (now Heartland Bank and Trust), eventually transitioning into the Deposit Operations department where she served as the bank’s fraud specialist.

That experience opened the door to a new opportunity with the Illinois Bankers Association. Rachel served as Director of Business and Education Services, where she partnered with member banks to assess training needs, develop customized programs and lead key initiatives, such as the Future Leaders Alliance.

“In that role, I was able to blend my communication background with my banking experience by planning educational events for bankers across Illinois, including those at INB. Through that work, I developed a deep appreciation for INB’s culture and people, making the decision to join the team an easy one when the opportunity arose,” Rachel says.

Outside of her full career, Rachel is the proud wife of Stephen and a busy mom to two young boys, Benjamin (3.5 years old) and Harrison (22 months).

Building on Training Culture

Community involvement is important to Rachel as well. She currently serves as Chair of the Executive Committee for RISE Springfield, an organization she helped create to support young professionals through development, networking and service.

That work, coupled with her service on the American Bankers Association’s Emerging Leaders Council – where she collaborated with peers nationwide to shape leadership-focused education and networking opportunities within the industry – earned her a spot on the Springfield Business Journal’s Forty Under 40, a recognition that reflects her commitment to professional excellence and community involvement.

Rachel’s strong combination of banking expertise, educational leadership and community engagement will be valuable asset to INB’s growth. In her role, she will collaborate with our management team to build and sustain a consistent, impactful training culture.

“At INB, I’m excited to build an internal training program from the ground up,” Rachel says. “My goal is to collaborate with employees to identify their needs, develop meaningful solutions, and foster strong relationships. I’m passionate about leveraging the knowledge and expertise of our staff to enhance their careers and contribute to INB’s continued success.”
