Choosing to enter the medical field is a huge decision. To reach the goal, Brandon Smith needed good grades. He got those grades while also being active in sports, band, and multiple clubs while a student at Riverton High School. That’s why he was chosen as the March student of the month for Riverton High School. Brandon determined early on that he wanted to become a physician. He plans to study Clinical Lab Science at the University of Illinois Springfield with a focus in pre-med.

Brandon participated in the school band/musicals, Debate Club, Spanish Club, Student Council, and was a member of the golf team. Staying connected is a big part of Brandon’s DNA. He was a youth group member of both the Riverton Christian Church and Buffalo Hart Presbyterian Church; he also joined the community theatre.

Brandon received many honors during his high school career; National Honor Society, Biology Honors Award, Spanish II award, Spanish III award, AP United States History award, Illinois High School Association’s (IHSA) golf medalist, Tri-County Honor Band, Illinois State Scholar, National Society of High School Scholars, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Good Citizenship Award, Wendy’s High School Heisman School winner.

This RHS March 2017 student of the month is the son of Allen and Kaye Smith of Springfield.

The Riverton High School Student of the Month Award is sponsored by Illinois National Bank (INB). Brandon was chosen for the award by the staff and faculty of RHS based on attendance, academics, effort, conduct, cooperation, dependability, leadership, school involvement, and service to others. He will receive $50 from INB and will be eligible for 2016-2017 Student of the Year honors at graduation.
