Lori Johnson has been a “numbers person” since she can remember.
“I used to argue with my kindergarten teacher that you can subtract 5 from 4; it’s just a negative number. I’m such a nerd!” Lori recalls with a laugh.
When a high school teacher told her that “no one graduates with an accounting degree; you need a business degree,” Lori set out to prove her wrong. After growing up in Auburn and graduating from Auburn High School, Lori attended Illinois State University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in – you guessed it! – accounting. She also minored in business administration. She earned her Certified Public Accounting designation (CPA) that same year.
Lori’s depth of experience over the last few decades were the ideal foundation for her new role as the assistant vice president of Wealth Strategies at INB, where she will work side-by-side with clients to assist them with financial planning, bookkeeping, tax advising and more.
Previously, Lori has worked in public accounting and in human resources – both of which combined her love of numbers and her desire to guide others to a better financial future.
Lori’s financial experience also expands into her involvement with her church, Trinity Lutheran in Auburn. She and her husband Steve have led the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University class, and they serve as chairpersons of the hospitality committee; “I do the organizing, and Steve does the cooking!” she said.
Family, Food and Football
Lori’s husband, Steve, also loves to cook at home, which Lori enjoys while cheering on her favorite football teams. A huge football fan, Lori can usually be found in front of the TV, or in the local stands, on weekends in the fall and winter.
“I love anything from high school through the pros,” she said. “I used to be a big Colts fan, but when Peyton Manning left, I figured out I was actually a Peyton Manning fan! So then I started following the Broncos.”
Lori and Steve recently celebrated 30 years of marriage. The couple has two children: a daughter, Emily who will be getting married this fall, and a son, Logan, who lives and works in Chicago.
Lori also makes time for hobbies she enjoys, from reading to scrapbooking. She enjoys mysteries and thrillers, and cross-stitch keeps her busy as well.
Focus on Only What’s Best for Customers
Lately, though, Lori has been spending most of her spare time studying! She’s passed all of the exams needed to serve her clients at INB, from the Series 7 Exam to the Series 66 Exam. Lori jokes that she survived her first “tax season” at INB, and with all of her tests now completed, she is excited to move ahead in fully servicing INB customers and assisting them in building their best financial future.
“A lot of brokers work on commission, but that’s not who I am. I really like INB’s approach to investing, financial planning and the other services we provide – it’s a total package. I will always be able to recommend what will work best for our clients,” Lori said.
