Mount Pulaski Recognizes Seniors of the Month for 2020-21 School Year

Mt. Pulaski High School recently selected its September and October Senior of the Month. Students earn the honor based on the criteria of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

September Senior of the MonthMP Student of the month

Chloe Olson, daughter of Joe and Angie Olson of Elkhart, has been named September Senior of the Month at MPHS.  She has played volleyball throughout her high school career, and played basketball for two years.  In addition to sports, she’s been active in the Drama Club, Spanish Club, Student Council, and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA.)  She was inducted into the National Honor Society.  In additional to this academic accolade, Chloe has also been named Chemistry Student of the Year, Advanced Chemistry Student of the Year, and Spanish Student of the Year.

Chloe has also volunteered her time to trick or treat for canned goods and make cards for the residents at Vonderlieth Living Center.  She plans to attend college and get a job working with kids.

October Senior of the MonthOctober 2020 Mount Pulaski student of the month

The staff at MPHS chose Colton Hagan, son of Christopher and Jackie Hagan of Mt. Pulaski, as the October Senior of the Month. 

Throughout his time at MPHS, Colton has played basketball, run track and played football. He earned the Hustle Award for basketball and placed third at sectionals in track in the two mile. In 2019, he placed fourth at sectionals in the one mile.

In addition to sports, Colton has been part of many of MPHS’s organizations. He has been on the yearbook staff, the Drama Club, Spanish Club, Future Farmers of America (FFA) and FCCLA.  He currently serves as the FCCLA chapter president and vice president of competitive events as an Illinois FCCLA state officer. For the 2019-20 school year, Colton served as the FCCLA chapter secretary.

Outside of school, Colton stays just as busy. He has worked as a corn technician for Gro Alliance, Wibben Detasseling, and as a lawn service worker. He has worked concession for basketball games, has participated in the Decatur Cure Cancer 5K and volunteers at the Logan County Humane Society.

Most notable is his stellar academic career, having made the honor roll all four years, as well has earning Woods 2, Woods 3, and U.S. History Student of the Year awards. He plans to attend a four-year university and major in physical education. He would also like to coach, be in the National Guard, and play a sport.
