Here’s How to Open a New Checking or Savings Account at INB

When we say we make banking easy, we mean everything from complex processes like mortgage loans to creating a new account. Opening a new checking or savings account at INB couldn’t be simpler – especially if you come prepared! 

To open a new account, the most important thing you’ll need is two forms of ID.

#1 - Your valid Social Security card or proof of your Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)

#2 – AND one of the following:

  • Unexpired Driver’s License that is at least 90 days old.

(A Temporary Visitor’s Driver’s License [TVDL] is NOT valid for identification.  This license is identified by the letters TVDL in the upper right corner under the name “Secretary of State.”)

  • Military and military/dependent identification cards
  • Passport
  • Unexpired, state issued ID1 card that is at least 90 days old
  • Non-resident alien ID card 
  • Employer ID
  • Government agency card
  • School ID
  • Voter’s registration card 
  • Any utility bill with a current address  

“You definitely have to have those two things, and everything else can be discussed with a banker,” says Bri Weisenburn, personal banker at INB Pleasant Plains.

What else will be discussed?

“We need to get your personal information to create a customer profile,” says Erin Birdsell, also a banker at the Pleasant Plains branch. “We’ll also take the money being used to open the account. Usually people bring in a check, but we take all forms of deposit.”

Other considerations for account opening include:

  • Utilizing INB’s Bill Pay option
  • Participating in overdraft protection
  • Setting up direct deposit

To change your direct deposits, we need your employer’s name, address, phone number. Please note: some employers and government agencies require you make direct deposit switches. In these cases, you will have to reach out to your employer directly.

  • Automatic transfers to or from the account

Many people automatically make loan payments or transfer funds to a savings account, for example. To change your automatic payments, simply gather your paper bills or online statements that include the billers’ names and addresses, account numbers and due dates.

  • Closing out prior accounts at other banks.

At INB, we partner with ClickSwitch to make it fast and easy for you to switch banks. To close other accounts, we’ll need the financial Institution names, addresses, phone numbers, routing/transit number, and your account number.

  • Creating a username and password for access to INB online banking and the INB app 

How long does it take to open an account at INB?

Bri says to set aside 30 minutes if you’re a new customer, but you can plan for less time if you’re an existing customer opening a new account. “You may want to allow a little extra time so we can explain how our Pocket Change Program and BaZing benefits make an INB checking account even more valuable to you,” she adds.

“We have streamlined systems in place to make everything as convenient as possible for our customers. If you are able to come in prepared with your documents and information and think about what you need from your account, everything will be even faster and more efficient for you,” Bri says.
