In May 2014, Kella Allspach combined her lifelong love of cooking and baking with her passion for repurposing to open Calm Creek Café in Mt. Pulaski.
Calm Creek Café sits on the Mt. Pulaski Square and welcomes customers from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The name Calm comes from the first letters of Chester, Aetna, Laenna, and Mount Pulaski townships.
“It’s a unique café with eclectic style,” Allspach said. “We feature baked goods, espresso drinks, homemade desserts, as well as soups, salads and sandwiches.”
Calm Creek Café is also part of the BaZing program, offered in combination with Illinois National Bank checking accounts. INB checking account holders simply need to download the BaZing app on your smartphone to use a coupon for $3 off $25 purchase at the restaurant.*
The homemade dishes at Calm Creek are a huge hit with customers who drive from all over Central Illinois to eat at the cafe. Among the most popular menu items are the cold strawberry soup, cinnamon rolls and homemade pies, Allspach said.
And the atmosphere of the cafe is friendly and inviting, with much of the restaurant utilizing repurposed items and décor.
“Our main counter is made out of old doors,” Allspach said. “And a tornado took down a big tree in our family timber, so we milled the lumber, and our countertops are made out of that lumber.”
For a gourmet coffee with breakfast, or a lunch of delicious, homemade soup and sandwich, be sure to stop in at Calm Creek Café with your BaZing app to receive a discount on your meal as an INB checking account customer!
