Vice President, Commercial Lending
From “behind the scenes” to “front and center” is how Melissa Tepovich describes her new position with INB. She’s been a banker for 13 years and has spent the last 4 years in support roles. But now, as vice president, business solutions, Melissa gets to work directly with people in the Champaign-Urbana community.
“This community is such a great place to live and work!” says Melissa. “I started in banking while enrolled at the University of Illinois to help cover expenses associated with school. I quickly learned how much I loved banking and helping my customers. I’ll be honest, when I selected finance as my major I didn’t have a clue what I ‘wanted to be when I grew up.’ Shortly after starting as a teller, I knew banking was the career path for me.”
Melissa recalls her days as a personal banker, working one-on-one with a retail customers. “A customer came in with a ‘little bit’ of fraud on her account. After she left, I, being a self-proclaimed detective, went back further looking for other potentially fraudulent transactions. I found thousands of dollars’ worth of fraud and worked with the customer to ensure all the proper forms were completed and kept in close contact with her until all funds were recovered.”
After graduation, Melissa began a full-time banking career in Des Moines. After three years, she returned to her Illinois roots and back to Champaign to be near her grandmother whose health was fading. “Coming back to Illinois was the best decision I’ve ever made,” she says. “Shortly after moving back, I met my husband who told me that day he was going to marry me.” She adds – with a smiley face emoji — it took Doug 2.5 years to marry her. In Champaign, she gets to be part of her nieces’ and nephews’ lives and reunite with “old” friends.
As Melissa’s life shows, sometimes you need to step outside of what you know to realize how good something is. Today she can say, “This community is such a great place to live and work! We are so fortunate to have so many wonderful attractions: sporting events, restaurants, museums, festivals, schools, employers—you name it you can find it here! As a mom to two-year-old Benjamin, feeling safe and secure where we work/play is crucial, and I definitely feel a sense of security in Central Illinois. I love having supportive and loving neighbors and a wonderful school district to eventually send Ben to.”
As part of INB’s Treasury Services team, Melissa will help organizations work smarter when it comes to managing financial transactions. She will specifically work with clients to simplify processes, improve cash flow, handle employee payroll and securely move financial data online. She joins our Springfield-based treasury specialists Lynne Wooden, Brenda Tuttle and Jamie Singer.
Melissa will work with customers in Champaign-Urbana and Bloomington-Normal. While she doesn’t live in B-N, her initial emphasis will simply be to tell the INB story throughout both communities.
Please welcome Melissa to the INB team.
